I was brought on to design the logo and brand for a new restaurant in East Haddam, CT. Working closely with the owner and his interior designer made it a fun, creative process, outlined below.
Client: Jimmy's Legacy Grille
Industry: Restaurant
Timeline: 6 weeks
Deliverables: Logo, Icon, Signage, Coaster, Brand identity system
The interior design color choices were made before I came on board, and it just made sense to be influenced by the finishes, wallpaper, wall colors and the neighborhood history for the restaurant's brand.
Note: Images shown below are not my work. The clients first request was for an iteration inspired by this AI generated sign below, which was presented by a consultant before I was hired.
The interior designer and I agreed that this look was a little too "Victorian revival/Americana saloon." What we kept was the concept of an icon/monogram for "JL" (Jimmy's Legacy) Featuring the logo design on signage for feedback turned out to be an effective way of getting a feel for the clients' preferences.
The client hesitated on the initial designs, (so did I) but I wanted a jumping off point and included alternative font options in the presentation just in case. Once he chose Ananda Black, one key design decision was locked in for the next round of iterations.
Above:The original JL was ruled out after selecting a final font for the wordmark. The client was interested in something that was more abstract, yet still a monogram. The sun concept was included in all iterations to call back to the owner's legacy: His parents had owned a resort hotel in the area.
I put together a 17-page brand guide with links to logos, fonts, and other assets for print, web, and social media. It covers everything from colors and type to layout tips, so the client and their team can keep things consistent across all marketing and design touchpoints. View PDF
